3 Things I’ve Learned As A “Struggling Artist”

Life is getting more and more real everyday. I don’t even know if I consider myself a “struggling artist” but…I think I qualify as struggling and I am in the midst of pursuing artsy careers. So, as a 19 year old almost going on 20, here are 3 things I’ve learned as a “struggling actress/blogger/designer/filmmaker” so far. There’s much more to learn and I’m certain to learn and grow some more so I hope to be doing another one of these posts soon!

  1. It’s okay to be vague and have no specific direction. There used to be days where I would rip my hair out (not literally) trying to figure out what path was exactly meant for me. I can’t foretell the the future, and that bothered me. Learning to be comfortable with not knowing is definitely something I sometimes struggle to understand and apply, but it’s definitely a valuable lesson.
  2. Look back on your journey so far. One of my favorite ways to reflect is to keep a journal or a diary. Recording my feelings, my thoughts, and simple what I did that day has become an everyday task. This way, I can look back on it and see the person I used to be, what I learned, or how much I grew. I believe we are always changing everyday so it’s really amazing and makes you grateful for the struggle! In a blogger/Youtuber view, I always love to look back on my cringe-worthy old Youtube videos and blog posts, haha!
  3. It’s okay to step back and take a break. I’m the type of person where I feel compelled to work and stay motivated 24/7 in order to accomplish my goal, but sometimes, that’s definitely not the case. I get better ideas when I’m away from my work and I feel the most growth. It’s important to make time to reflect, breathe, and just be no matter how work-obsessed you are. It’s all about balance, ya know?

What have you learned in one of your life’s journeys that you can share?
