Where To Stay & What To Do in Salem & Marblehead, Massachusetts

I’m especially excited for this post because I get to write this while sipping coffee in a charming little New England-style boutique hotel on a perfect fall day. A trip full of pumpkin spice lattes, lots of history, and the sound of crashing waves was exactly the type of fall trip I was looking for. If you’re a fall or Halloween lover or looking for your next charming destination, Salem and Marblehead are a must-have on your list.

Confused on where to stay?

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to ride up to Salem for all of the Halloween activities and while we throughly enjoyed Salem, we loved olde town Marblehead even more. Salem has more hustle and bustle and you’re more central to everything so if that sounds like you, Salem is the perfect place to stay. Less than 10 minutes away is Marblehead, a much quieter, incredibly charming, seaside town which is obviously up our alley.

We stayed at the Hotel Marblehead, which is one of the coziest stays I’ve ever had. With an intimate, historic charm (it was built in 1871!) and it’s own New England coastal flair, we were swept away from the delicious croissants in the morning, complimentary bicycles, and of course our cozy and spacious suite!

Some seriously amazing breakfast with fresh pastries, fruit, cereal, and more. I literally had the best chocolate croissant I’ve ever had!

What To Do in Salem and Marblehead

If you’re looking to dive deep into history, eat the best lobster rolls, and learn how to cast a spell, look no further. Salem and Marblehead are neighboring towns with a variety of different things to do. While Salem holds the most attractions and the Halloween spirit, Marblehead offers a quaint taste of New England.

As for restaurants and eateries, I definitely recommend 5 Corners in Marblehead for a local, farm-to-table cuisine. Their pastas are to die for! The Barnacle is a great spot for seafood and if you want to dine on the water. And lastly, you must stop by A & J King Artisan Bakery in Salem! This is the spot to get your pumpkin spice latte and they also have a great selection of sandwiches.

Depending on when you’re going, check around Salem for new events like festivals, parades, and more. There’s plenty of Halloween attractions in Salem, too. I recommend purchasing a bundle of tickets so you have access to more attractions for a better price (we purchased the 5-ticket combo and had access to the Salem Wax Museum, Frankenstein’s Castle, Witch Village, Spellcasting, and the Candlelit Ghost Tour. In Salem, a walking tour is a MUST to learn the scope about the witch trials and haunted happenings around the town.
