WordPress plugins are the secret tools for adding functionality and the extra “wow” factor on your blog. With WordPress having over 54,000 plugins, these are 15 WordPress plugins every fashion blog must have in 2019. If you’re running a fashion blog and you’re not using WordPress, you’re missing out on tons of customization options and really cool features! There’s so many out there but I’m sharing the ones I consistently recommend to my clients. Whether your blog is using WordPress self-hosted or WordPress.com, all of these plugins are available for an easy install!
This post includes both free and premium plugins (the plugins I think is 100% worth investing in). It’s easy to get a little ‘download happy’ when you have so many plugins to choose from, but remember that the more plugins you download, the more space it takes up and can slow your website loading time down.
How do I install a plugin?
When you login to your WordPress dashboard, on the left sidebar, hover over Plugins (plug symbol) and click Add New. You’ll be able to search these plugins below, install it, and activate it.
The Best WordPress Plugins
Akismet filters out any spam comments coming through your blog. Depending on your pageviews, you can get anywhere from ten to thousands of spam comments every day and it will become a chore if you’re constantly deleting them manually.
Jetpack is your site’s security detail, guarding you against brute-force attacks and unauthorized logins. Basic protection is free, while premium plans add expanded backup and automated fixes. I personally love their site stats feature!
If you’re trying to increase the number on your mailing list, this plugin will be your secret weapon. Give your visitors a strong reason to leave their emails on your website by locking a piece of content.
Everest Forms plugin provides you with an easy way to create any kind of forms including contact forms using easy drag and drop fields.
Hustle let’s you easily grow your mailing list or display targeted ads across your site with pop-ups, slide-ins, widgets, and shortcodes. I love them especially because you get so many customization options!
This plugin is essential for turning over your website traffic to your Instagram! This plugin allows you to display your Instagram feed wherever on your blog. The pro version features even more including a shoppable Instagram feed which is another super popular feature for making sales! I also have a tutorial on how to set up a shoppable Instagram feed.
This plugin will monitor your blog looking for broken links and let you know if any are found.
If you’re lacking a mobile theme or your mobile theme is loading extremely slow, this plugin generates accelerated mobile pages to every page on your blog, or customize the pages you’d like to have the accelerated mobile page. It provides anybody scrolling through your website a more user-friendly experience.
8. Yoast SEO
This plugin is insanely helpful in making your blog posts rank higher in Google search results. The free version works great, but I highly recommend the premium since it really does so much. If you’re a writer that’s not too familiar with ‘writing for the web’, I can’t recommend this one enough!
Use this plugin to create special XML sitemaps which will help search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask.com to better index your site, which will improve your SEO.
10. W3 Total Cache
W3 Total Cache improves the SEO and user experience of your site by increasing website performance and reducing load times.
11. WP Smush
Resize, optimize, and compress all of your images in bulk with WP Smush, essential to make your website load faster! They also offer a premium version, but I think the free version does just the job.
12. BJ Lazy Load
Lazy loading makes your site load faster and saves bandwidth. This plugin replaces all your post images, post thumbnails, gravatar images and content iframes with a placeholder and loads the content as it gets close to enter the browser window when the visitor scrolls the page.
The Pinterest pin it button plugin displays the Pin It button on image hover so users can pin directly from your website.
14. WP 2x Retina
This plugin does two things: it creates the image files required by the High-DPI devices and it displays them to your visitors accordingly. Your website will look beautiful and crisp on every device!
What plugins can you not live without? Let me know!
